21 November 2022
With responsibility and accountability for the operational management of the Civil Legal Assistance Office (CLAO), the Head of Service will manage and lead a high quality service for clients.
The Head of Service will play an integral part in ensuring that consistency of approach is visible across the CLAO network; that all activities and deliverables are in line with SLAB policies; and that these are effective and efficient.
The successful candidate will directly manage three Heads of Office, each with operational responsibility for their own geographic area/office. While not generally carrying your own caseload, as an experienced solicitor you will act as a reference point for colleagues across the network in respect of casework, advising on ethical and professional practice issues, and assisting in complex case work.
The role will have a significant strategic focus, therefore the post holder will be expected to ensure that strategic drivers for CLAO are in place and are embedded in the activities of the service. Working closely with colleagues across the Client Legal Services Directorate and SLAB more widely, you will support the Director of Client Legal Services to ensure CLAO delivers its strategic objectives as well as those of SLAB.
The CLAO service operates through a mix of casework; referral to other providers of legal assistance and support; second tier support to other providers (including training); and partnership/development project working with local and national organisations operating in the defined geographical areas.
Full details of the post and application are available on our recruitment portal (external link).
