28 November 2023
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled solicitor interested in social welfare and public law to join and help us shape how we deliver impactful legal services within Argyll and Bute.
With comprehensive training provided, this opportunity may be attractive to solicitors wishing to build experience in new areas of work and progress their careers within a supportive environment.
Reporting to their Head of Office, the successful candidate will manage their own varied and rewarding caseload providing high quality trauma-informed advice and representation to legally aided clients in all our core areas of casework (for example children’s hearings and public family law, mental health/AWI, housing & homelessness, benefit appeals and certain debt matters).
Whilst you will be part of a wider team supporting the work of the CLAO network, a significant part of your role will be focused on delivering and developing our services throughout Argyll and Bute. This will involve working closely with external advice and support providers to help triage and refer certain cases where appropriate; provide second tier advice and training on our core areas of casework and explore opportunities for strategic partnership work to maximise the impact of our service. You will also be involved in CLAO’s important strategic project work.
CLAO is a network of publicly funded court solicitors and support staff employed by the Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB). We help people with their civil law problems by providing advice and representation to legally aided clients within our core areas of work. In addition, we operate a referral service to other providers of legal assistance and offer second tier support and training to advice organisations. Our work involves developing partnership links and project work with local and national organisations operating within the geographical areas we cover.
CLAO is part of SLAB’s Client Legal Services Directorate, which also includes the Public Defence Solicitors’ Office (PDSO) and Solicitor Contact Line (SCL) making us Scotland’s largest multi-disciplinary legal aid practice and a unique place to work.
